What Does a Boring Machine Do?

A boring machine drills rows of holes in panels for dowels, hinges, shelf pins and fittings. A multi-spindle machine drills many holes at once at fixed spacing, so every panel matches. Drilling by hand can’t match that accuracy or speed. Panels are usually edgebanded before they’re drilled.

Types of Boring Machine

Multi-borers such as the Minimax Advance 21 and SCM Startech 27 drill a full row of holes in one stroke, and suit smaller cabinet shops. For higher volumes, the semi-automatic SCM Top Plus drills multiple rows with less handling. CNC drilling machines like the Startech CN-V and CN Plus R are programmed from your drawings, so there’s no manual set-up between jobs. The CN Plus R also mills grooves and pockets.
